The Fred Tempo

A small grinder that keeps up.

The Fred Tempo is Lelit's entry espresso grinder. It is 14 centimeters wide, weighs 3 kilograms, and runs a set of 38 mm conical burrs with stepless micrometric grind adjustment. The engineering target was simple: make a compact on-demand grinder that can actually keep pace with a Lelit espresso machine.

On-demand means the grinder grinds only what you need, when you need it, directly into a portafilter. A side knob sets grind size. A front button starts grinding. An electronic timer controls dose by time, adjustable from 2 to 20 seconds.

This is the simplest version of a real espresso grinder. No dosing chamber, no grind retention buildup, no stale grounds. You put beans in the hopper, you set your grind, you press the button, and the grounds go into the basket.

Grind, dose, brew, no waste.

The burrs are 38 mm conical. At that size, you get enough surface area to keep grind speed reasonable without the heat generation you would see from a larger flat burr set. The stepless adjustment lets you dial in to wherever your espresso wants to be, rather than stepping between fixed positions.

The body is stainless steel. The 250 g hopper sits on top. A filter holder support holds your portafilter in place while grinding so you do not have to steady it by hand. The coffee chute directs grounds into the basket.

Seven things to know

What you actually get.

01

38 mm conical burrs

Stepless micrometric adjustment via side knob. Fine enough resolution to dial in espresso without fighting the grinder.

02

Electronic dose timer

Adjustable grind time from 2 to 20 seconds. Set your target and the grinder stops automatically.

03

On-demand grinding

Grinds directly into the portafilter only when the button is pressed. No dosing chamber, no retention chamber, no stale grounds.

04

Stainless steel body

Full stainless build. 14 centimeters wide, 3 kilograms. Fits next to most espresso machines without crowding the counter.

05

Filter holder support

A built-in support holds your portafilter during grinding. You are not steadying it by hand.

06

Integrated coffee chute

Directs grounds into the basket instead of letting them scatter on the portafilter.

07

250 g bean hopper

Top-mounted hopper. Enough for several days of home use before refilling.

How it works

Dialing in a Fred Tempo.

Fill the hopper with beans. Rotate the side knob to your starting grind size. For Lelit espresso machines with a LELIT57 or LELIT58 group, a medium-fine setting is a reasonable starting point.

Set the dose timer on the front panel. For a standard 18 g double shot, you will likely start somewhere between 6 and 10 seconds and adjust from there. Slot your portafilter under the chute, onto the support, and press the button.

Weigh the dose on a scale. If it is short, add to the timer. If it is long, subtract. Adjust grind size based on how your shot pulls: finer for a longer shot, coarser for a shorter one. The stepless adjustment lets you make very small moves.

Who it's for

Who the Fred Tempo is for.

The Fred Tempo is for people buying their first real espresso grinder. It is also the right fit for anyone pairing a Lelit espresso machine and wanting the workflow consistency of sticking within one ecosystem. It is small, it is honest, and it grinds well for its price.

If you are pulling multiple shots back-to-back or running a cafe workflow, a flat-burr grinder like the William will serve you better. For one to four drinks a day, the Fred Tempo keeps up without asking much of your counter space.

The Lelit toolbox

Built for Lelit machines.

The Fred Tempo's filter holder support fits LELIT57 and LELIT58 portafilters. It works with other 57mm and 58mm portafilters as well. If you are building a full Lelit setup, the Fred Tempo is the designed-for match.
