The Espresso Series 1

Espresso at home, without the learning curve a prosumer demands.

Espresso is the most variable brew method there is. Temperature, pressure, flow, dose, yield, grind, time. Change any one and the shot changes. For a long time, the machines that controlled all of those variables were reserved for commercial bars and prosumer users willing to rebuild a morning routine around a single appliance. The Series 1 is Fellow's attempt at putting that kind of control into a machine that works without the rebuild.

At the heart of it is a three-element boiler system. One element heats water as it moves toward the grouphead. A second holds the boiler itself at temperature. A third sits inside the grouphead to eliminate the thermal drop that usually happens between the boiler and the puck. Result: temperature stability across the shot, and across shots in a row, without a long warm-up. Fellow rates it at ready-to-brew in under two minutes.

Pressure profiling is built in, with programmable pre-infusion. You can ramp pressure up slowly, hold at a target, or follow a profile another user has shared. The Series 1 app on iOS and Android lets you create, edit, and share those profiles. Fellow Drops subscribers get a new coffee each week with a matched profile already tuned.

The steam wand temperature-senses the milk and stops automatically when it hits your target. Between uses, it purges itself. For users who've never steamed milk before, the machine handles it. For users who have, the wand rotates to a manual position.

Most espresso machines assume you already know what you're doing. The Series 1 is built for the year before that's true.

Shot feedback is the feature we'd point to first. After every shot, the machine analyzes flow and timing and tells you whether to grind finer, coarser, or hold. Over weeks, that feedback loop is how subscribers who've never pulled espresso before start pulling it well.

We stock the Series 1 because it's the first machine in its class that takes espresso education seriously. Most espresso machines assume you already know what you're doing. The Series 1 is built for the year before that's true, and it keeps pace once you get there.

Twelve things to know

What the Series 1 has inside.

01

Three-element boiler system

A flow-through heater, a boiler heater, and a grouphead heater work together to hold temperature stable across a shot and across back-to-back pulls. Under two minutes from power-on to first shot.

02

15-bar pump, 9-bar extraction

A 15-bar pump gives headroom, calibrated to deliver a steady 9 bars at the puck. The number most roasters brew toward.

03

Programmable pressure profiling

Set pre-infusion pressure and time. Ramp pressure during the shot. Hold at a target. Follow a shared profile from another user. Control the variables the way a commercial machine would, from a screen most people can use.

04

Assisted milk steaming

The steam wand senses milk temperature and stops automatically at your target. Auto-purge between uses. Rotates for manual steaming if you prefer.

05

Shot feedback

After every shot, the machine analyzes flow and timing. If the shot ran fast or slow, it tells you how to adjust your grind. A feedback loop built into the machine itself.

06

Guided recipes and manual mode

On-screen, step-by-step guidance for common espresso drinks. Manual mode for users who'd rather run their own shots.

07

Heated commercial-style grouphead

Brass core with an internal heating element. Hot from the moment you lock in the portafilter.

08

58mm bottomless portafilter

Standard commercial size. Bottomless so you can see the shot pour and diagnose channeling in real time.

09

iOS and Android app

Create, edit, and share espresso profiles. Track shots. Receive firmware updates with new features over time.

10

Removable water tank

2.0L capacity. Lifts out for filling and cleaning. Minimum fill sensor so the pump doesn't run dry.

11

Fellow Drops integration

Each week, Fellow picks one coffee and publishes a matched espresso profile. Load the profile, brew the coffee, adjust from there. A standing recipe book that refreshes every seven days.

12

BPA and PFAS-free

All water-contact materials are BPA and PFAS-free. Stainless steel, brass, silicone, food-grade plastic, and wood on select colors.

How it works

How a morning with the Series 1 goes.

Power on. Within two minutes the machine is at temperature. Dose your grinds into the 58mm portafilter, tamp, and lock into the grouphead. Pick a profile from the screen or run manual. Start the shot. The machine follows your pressure profile, pulls the shot, and shows you the flow curve on the display.

After the shot, the screen gives you feedback. Faster than target? Grind finer. Slower? Grind coarser. For milk drinks, swing the steam wand into place, drop it into your pitcher, and let the temperature sensor stop it at your target. The wand purges itself between drinks.

Over weeks, the feedback you get after each shot turns into a consistent routine. The app logs your shots if you want, and you can share profiles with other Series 1 owners.

Who it's for

Who the Series 1 is for.

The Series 1 is for subscribers who want to pull espresso at home and don't want to spend a year learning a temperamental machine. It's also for experienced users who want pressure profiling, shot feedback, and an app ecosystem without stepping into the $4,000-and-up prosumer tier. A grinder is sold separately. We'd recommend an espresso-specific grinder, not the Ode Gen 2, which is built for brewed coffee only.

In the Fellow ecosystem

Paired with Fellow Drops and the Series 1 app.

The Series 1 is the first Fellow product tied directly to Fellow Drops, their curated coffee service. Each week Fellow picks a coffee and publishes a matched espresso profile for the Series 1. Subscribers who want a weekly rotation without dialing in from scratch have a ready-made recipe book. The app is free on iOS and Android, and firmware updates ship over WiFi as new features arrive.
