The Virtuoso+

The filter grinder that earned its place on serious counters.

The Virtuoso+ is where Baratza takes the Encore playbook and tightens every line. Same 550 RPM philosophy, same conical burr family, same repair ethos. But the burrs are M2, the timer is digital and repeatable to a tenth of a second, and the motor has more torque to move through dense beans.

The result is a grinder that settles into a morning routine the way a well-used hand tool does. Set your time, press the button, walk away. The dose comes out consistent, day after day.

The M2 burr itself is worth a paragraph. Manufactured in Liechtenstein, designed for tighter particle distribution than basic conical geometry. You taste the difference most clearly in pour-over, where the reduction in fines cleans up the cup noticeably.

The Encore's thoughtful older sibling, built for filter brewers who taste carefully.

The LCD timer runs from 0 to 60 seconds in tenth-of-a-second increments. Program your dose once, and every morning after that is a single button press. A backlit grounds bin lights up as you grind, which sounds like a frill until you are working at 5 a.m. and it is not.

Like the rest of the Baratza line, every wear part is replaceable. The motor, the burrs, the adjustment mechanism, the switch, the gears. This is a grinder you buy once and keep.

Eight things to know

What makes the Virtuoso+ different.

01

40mm M2 conical burrs

Manufactured in Liechtenstein. The M2 burr is designed for tighter particle distribution and fewer fines than basic conical geometry. Noticeable cup clarity improvement on pour-over and drip.

02

550 RPM motor, 180W at 120V

More torque than the Encore classic, same slow-burr philosophy. Grinds 1.5 to 2.4 grams per second depending on setting. DC motor with gear reduction for cool, quiet operation.

03

40 stepped grind settings

From 250 to 1200 microns. Covers fine filter and AeroPress through coarse French press. Adjustment by hopper rotation, with clear numbered stops.

04

Digital timer, 0.1-second precision

LCD display, programmable from 0 to 60 seconds in tenth-of-a-second increments. Set your dose once, press once every morning after that.

05

Backlit grounds bin

An LED illuminates the bin as you grind. Small detail, but it helps on a dim counter when you are gauging dose visually.

06

Designed for repair

Like the rest of the Baratza line, every wear part is replaceable. Repair videos and a parts catalog live on Baratza's site. This is a grinder you maintain, not replace.

07

Compact footprint

5 inches wide, 6 inches deep, 14 inches tall. Fits under most cabinets. 8 lb weight keeps it planted on the counter during grinding.

08

Burr compatibility

The M2 burr set is shared with the Encore ESP family, which means muscle memory and taste language carry up and down the line.

How it works

How the Virtuoso+ works.

You set your grind by turning the hopper. A ring of numbered stops, 1 through 40, tells you where you are. Finer at 1, coarser at 40. Tighter tolerances than the Encore classic because of the M2 burr geometry.

Set your dose time on the digital timer. The motor runs for exactly that time, plus or minus a tenth of a second. For a morning V60 dialed to 18 grams in, you find the time once and use it forever.

Press the button. Backlit bin lights up. The motor spins burrs at 550 RPM, and the dose drops into the container or directly into your brewer via the included funnel.

Who it's for

Who the Virtuoso+ is for.

The filter brewer who has outgrown the Encore's simplicity and wants repeatable, time-based dosing. The subscriber who brews one coffee every morning and wants that morning to get faster, not more complicated. The pour-over devotee who tastes fines in the cup and wants them reduced.

If you pull espresso, the ESP Pro or a dedicated espresso grinder will serve you better. The Virtuoso+ is tuned for the filter range.

Middle of the Baratza line.

The bridge between Encore and Vario.

The Virtuoso+ slots between the Encore and the Vario+ in Baratza's lineup. Burrs and parts share DNA with the Encore ESP. The next step up, the Vario+, moves to flat burrs and 220-plus adjustment steps. The Virtuoso+ is the sweet spot for dedicated filter brewers who want precision without the complexity.
