The Encore has been the grinder we recommend to friends getting into specialty coffee for more than a decade. It is not the fanciest machine in the Baratza lineup. That is the point.

Inside the plastic housing sits a 40mm conical steel burr, spinning at 550 RPM via a DC motor with gear reduction. Slow, cool, quiet. The burr geometry is the same family of shape used in Baratza's more expensive grinders. The differences live in the chassis, the motor, and the adjustment hardware.

How it works

How the Encore grinds.

You turn the hopper to choose a grind setting. The burrs shift closer together for fine, farther apart for coarse. A clear number on the ring tells you where you are.

Press the front button. The motor spins the lower burr against the upper burr at 550 RPM. Coffee falls through, gets crushed and sheared, and drops into the grounds bin at roughly 1 gram per second.

That is the whole interaction. No display to read, no timer to set. If you are new to grinding, this simplicity is a feature. Dial in by tasting, not by reading.
